Litelu is a scion of the House of Nkopane. He descends through Chobane who is Nkopane's son by his fourth wife.Chobane had two known wives, he had Tsoaeli and others by his second wife. Tsoaeli's son Masiea (alias Mokiti) is the father of Litelu and others.

Litelu had four known sons, viz,

•Molimisi-House of Molimisi (senior)

•Qoane-House of Qoane

•Mphokotso -House of Mphokotso

•Motumi (Makhube) - House of Motumi

Direct descendants of Litelu either in Lesotho or South Africa belong to these four houses. Since his father was also known as Masiea, Litelu and his brothers were originally from the Masiea family based in Matsieng. Due to family infighting resulting from scarcity of land and polygamy issues, Litelu's grandson Chobane (Potomane) was moved from Matsieng to Ha Ramorakane, in the Qeme district of Maseru. As a result of this action he changed the family name to that of his grandfather Litelu. Subsequent to that all his brothers from other houses changed theirs as well, they also decided to use Litelu as a surname. For all intents and purposes, the Litelus are a cadet branch of the Masiea family. Another surname that also comes from the Masiea family is Ntsoeu. They are regarded as close blood relatives by the Litelu family.

Ha Ramorakane is now regarded as the Litelus' home (Bakoena) since this is where the family first used its surname. Contemporaries of Chobane (Potomane) son of Molimisi who at some point resided in Ha Ramorakane before coming to South Africa are among others Mokete son of Qoane and Rantswele son of Makhube. In South Africa, the brothers went to live at the south most part of the Free State. Farms in and around Westminster became home to some families.
